Psychana Summit DC is the spiritual continuation of the Cannadelic Event Series — a visionary gathering that united over 25,000 attendees from 28 countries and 40 states around the transformative power of plant medicine, holistic health, and conscious community.
This next chapter is guided by Psychana Church, a federally protected religious organization that honors sacred mushrooms and cannabis as spiritual sacraments — divine gifts of the Earth that support emotional healing, personal revelation, and connection to higher consciousness.
Our sacramental practices are grounded in sincerely held religious beliefs and are protected under the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). All ceremonies, community events, and educational offerings are reserved for registered members of Psychana Church.
Rooted in science, storytelling, and sacred care, Psychana Summit DC is more than a conference — it’s a sacred convergence for healing justice, spiritual freedom, and the future of mental health.
National Mushroom Cup: Sourcing the Sacred
We’re proud to host the National Mushroom Cup in partnership with Hyphae Labs — the nation’s first and most respected psilocybin testing lab and the creators of the groundbreaking Hyphae Cup. As pioneers in community-centered psychedelic science, Hyphae leads the industry in high-integrity testing, education, and data-driven harm reduction.
This competition is not about hype — it's about sourcing the highest quality sacred medicine through rigorous analysis and honoring excellence in cultivation. Entries are tested for potency and purity to inform both research and sacramental use within our community.
Together, we’re advancing the future of safe, informed, and intentional mushroom use in alignment with spiritual practice and holistic healing.
Entry in the National Mushroom Cup includes a one-year membership to Psychana Church, a sacred medicine ministry that honors mushrooms and cannabis as religious sacraments. All entries are submitted in alignment with our spiritual mission and are intended for sacramental and research purposes only.
This work is protected under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) and the First Amendment, affirming our right to explore, honor, and share these sacraments in a safe, structured, and spiritually grounded way.

In recent years, Washington, DC, has become a focal point for progressive drug policy reform. Two pivotal pieces of legislation, Initiative 71 and Initiative 81, have significantly shaped the landscape for cannabis and psychedelic substances within the city. This blog post aims to delve into the details of these initiatives, exploring their implications, impact, and what they mean for residents and visitors alike.
Passed in November 2014, Initiative 71 marked a groundbreaking shift in Washington, DC’s approach to cannabis. This measure, which received overwhelming support from voters, effectively decriminalized the possession and use of small amounts of marijuana. Here’s what Initiative 71 entails:
Possession and Use: Adults 21 and over can legally possess up to two ounces of marijuana and use it on private property.
Cultivation: Residents are allowed to cultivate up to six cannabis plants in their home, with no more than three being mature at any given time.
Transfer: It is legal to transfer up to one ounce of marijuana to another person, provided there is no exchange of money, goods, or services.
Paraphernalia: Possession of marijuana-related paraphernalia is also permitted.
While Initiative 71 brought significant freedoms, it is crucial to note that it does not legalize the sale of marijuana. The lack of a regulated market means that the commercial sale of cannabis remains illegal. This has led to a proliferation of “gifting” services, where consumers purchase an item (like a T-shirt or artwork) and receive a “gift” of cannabis in return.
Building on the progressive momentum, Initiative 81, also known as the Entheogenic Plant and Fungus Policy Act of 2020, was passed with strong voter support in November 2020. This initiative shifts the enforcement priority regarding the use and possession of natural psychedelics. Key points include:
Deprioritization: Law enforcement is directed to make the enforcement of laws against the non-commercial planting, cultivating, purchasing, transporting, distributing, possessing, and engaging in practices with entheogenic plants and fungi among the lowest law enforcement priorities.
Scope: The initiative covers substances such as psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca, ibogaine, and mescaline (excluding peyote).
Therapeutic Potential: The move is largely driven by growing evidence of the therapeutic potential of these substances, particularly in treating mental health conditions like depression, PTSD, and addiction.
Unlike Initiative 71, Initiative 81 does not change the legal status of these substances but rather deprioritizes their enforcement, reducing the risk of criminal charges for those involved in their use for personal or spiritual reasons.
The passage of Initiatives 71 and 81 reflects a broader shift in societal attitudes towards drug use, prioritizing harm reduction, personal freedom, and the potential therapeutic benefits of these substances. However, the legal landscape remains complex:
Legal Grey Areas: The lack of a regulated market for cannabis and the federal prohibition on both cannabis and psychedelics create a legal grey area that can be confusing for residents and visitors.
Public Health and Safety: Advocates argue that these initiatives contribute to public health by reducing the burden on the criminal justice system and allowing individuals to seek out alternative therapeutic options. Critics, however, raise concerns about potential risks, including impaired driving and the impact on youth.
Future Reforms: The success of these initiatives could pave the way for further reforms, including the establishment of a regulated market for cannabis and expanded research into the medical benefits of psychedelics.
For those living in or visiting Washington, DC, understanding these initiatives is crucial. Here are some practical tips:
Stay Informed: Laws and regulations can change, so staying informed about the latest developments is essential.
Use Responsibly: Whether using cannabis or psychedelics, always prioritize safety and responsibility. Be mindful of your surroundings, particularly since public use remains illegal.
Seek Legal Advice: If you find yourself in a legal grey area, seeking advice from a legal professional familiar with DC’s drug laws can be beneficial.
Initiatives 71 and 81 represent significant steps forward in drug policy reform, reflecting a growing recognition of the need for more progressive and compassionate approaches. While challenges and uncertainties remain, these initiatives set the stage for a future where personal freedom and public health can coexist harmoniously. As Washington, DC, continues to navigate this evolving landscape, residents and visitors alike must remain informed and engaged, ensuring that the potential benefits of these reforms are fully realized.
